About this class
Whether you’re brand new to drawing or looking to refresh your fundamentals, this class will help you explore the expressive power of charcoal. Using vine, compressed, and pencil charcoal, students will learn essential techniques while working with shading, value, texture, and dynamic line quality. Through guided demonstrations and studio practice, you’ll develop your observational skills and experiment with bold mark-making that brings your drawings to life. Materials Required: Students should bring vine or willow charcoal, compressed charcoal (medium or soft), charcoal pencils (HB–6B), white charcoal or chalk, a kneaded eraser and white stick eraser, blending stump, sandpaper pad, pencil sharpener, and charcoal drawing paper (white or toned).
